Montreal is in predominantly French speaking Canadian province of Quebec. The video was recorded on April 28, 2012 in the Montreal’s downtown district.
47 year old Montreal taxi driver gave lift to three people but got into an argument with them over fares. Things escalated and the next thing you know, the group of drunken stooges start kicking the taxi vehicle with one jumping on its roof. After he had had enough of the abuse, the taxi driver decided to get the hell out of there regardless of whether any of the stooges stood in the way of his vehicle or not. Turns out – one of them did.
A 23 year old man was run over and is in a Montreal hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. Both the driver and members of the group that attacked him are subjects to the investigation by the police who may lay criminal charges.
I don’t know about you, but to me it looks like the stooges were the shit rivets in this situation. Clearly drunk, the stooges took a ride and when they got to the destination, the cost of the lift seemed too high. Cabbies in Canada use meters so the cost is not up to them. Plus it was the stooges who started the abuse.
Unfortunately, things are not always fair in Canada. Law often protects the offender more than the victim. Most cabbies I know are decent people. They came from abroad, don’t speak much English (or in case of Quebec – French) very well, but try hard to earn a living with honest work. Instead of spending evenings with their kids, these men plow the streets at night looking to make an honest dollar.
I have no problem with people who immigrate to Canada and add to the economy, instead of taking from it. If you come from abroad but roll up your sleeves to earn a living with honest work, you are a decent contribution to the country. Unlike whiners who receive asylum status in exchange for whining and instead of contributing to the economy, come here to live for free off of government support money.
Sadly, Canadian government makes it incredibly difficult for skilled workers to immigrate to Canada, requiring tons of paperwork and endless waiting times and when eventually here, many skilled workers can’t apply themselves in their field of expertise because their credentials are not recognized. It’s often doctors who can’t practise medicine because their education was gained from an institution not on the list of recognized universities. These doctors are forced to take on such jobs as taxi driving to survive until their credentials are cleared, which is never a simple task.
Yeah, that’s the way it is in my homeland. People who come here on a plane and ready to get to work are given hard time. But come here on a boat and whining and you’ll be provided with a free house and all expenses paid by the government. All well!
